I would like to do a "traditional" Sabbath observation, meaning from sundown tonight (friday) until sundown tomorrow night. I have never done this and am not quite sure how to go about this.
I have decided to have easy to make meals for us-mini pizzas, sandwiches, etc during this time.
I would like to hear what other people do during this time.

I would have answered your question directly now, but I just don't have time! I think these articles and videos will help you. If you have any other questions, please let me know and I will answer them when I have more time - I have to get ready for the Sabbath myself! Happy Sabbath!

Hi Denise - I've been doing some thinking about this recently too... let me know what you come up with!

It went rather well for us. we colored, read stories, and just rested for the day. We even watched the birds visit our feeder and patio. The kids loved looking out at the birds especially the chickadees and wrens
For a mission project, we got a box of food together for the "Help Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive" . I read some verses in the Bible about the Sabbath and how God wants us to rest. We even laid down for a little while :-)
I am so glad that we did this and am looking forward to doing it again next Sabbath. I know a day of rest did me a world of good.
Thanks to everyone for their great ideas

Denise, we've been observing the Sabbath for about 3 years now, and it has become our true delight, the happiest day of the week, for our whole family. We cook all the food before sundown Fri, including the food for the next day (Sat. afternoon.) That way you can still have a very nice, special dinner Fri. night, but you are not working after sundown. We always have candlelight, we use china, silverware, stemware...We usually have a lot of people over for dinner, and have a small study and fellowship afterward.

We wipe out all work, other than straightening and we sleep as much as we want :o) We listen to an online Bible Study (live audio) Sat. afternoon, we have friends over, catch up on calling family or writing to family, we go for walks, sit on the porch and talk, play croquet, take naps,...the kids have a lot of free time.

We have a farm, so work seems never ending...and Shabbat is our weekly, ordained break from that. It is such a blessing when people want us to go places or participate in sports, or meetings, or work, to have an "excuse" (from G-d himself!!) to say, "I'm sorry, we don't work on the Sabbath. We can't."

Blessings - Nancy

Hello, we are Sabbath Keepers also. Sometimes I cook things up ahead and sometimes just have quickie things. There are several good books on keeping the Sabbath out there also :)

Could you let me know the name of some of the books? I plan to go to the library either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Thanks :-)
