This past Sabbath, my daughters Sarah and Emily and I sang “I’ll Fly Away” for the special music at church. It has always been one of my favorite songs. The lyrics are simple but very meaningful for the believer.

Some bright morning when this life o’er.
I’ll fly away.
To a home on God’s celestial shore.
I’ll fly away.

As I was cleaning my kitchen this morning, thinking of all the things I had to do today, I was again singing, this time to myself, the words of the song, “I’ll Fly Away.” And it got me to thinking.

We spend each day, as homemakers, trying to keep the house clean, tending to chores that never end such as dirty laundry or dirty dishes, or dirty children. We spend our lives doing the best we can to make home a safe and loving place to be. And that is as it should be. We are commanded to be “keepers at home.”

Just remember the words to the song the next time you feel discouraged about the work your home requires. You are doing God’s will. You are caring for your family the best you know how. And, while the work in our earthly homes is never done, there will come a day when we fly up into the clouds to meet our Saviour face to face, that we will sing praises every moment of everday and our heavenly homes will not cause us to feel discouraged or frustrated. There won’t be mold on the food left in the fridge, there won’t be germs or disease, or sick children. There won’t be dirty clothes to keep under control.

Our heavenly home will be more perfect than we could ever imagine in this old world. So won’t you sing the words with me?
