Have you ever noticed that even the nicest people can get hot and bothered over doctrines? That our belief is held so near and dear to us is a testament of the power of doctrine. Have you ever considered why you go to the church you go to?
Perhaps you go to the same church/ denomination that your parents raised you in. Or perhaps you were led there by a kind person who saw your need for a Saviour. Or maybe you just moved into a new community and visited each church in your town until you found the one that seemed to “fit” your personal style.
Whatever the reason, have you ever considered what the church was teaching and whether the beliefs of the church were founded on solid Biblical texts?
I personally cannot attend a church unless the beliefs mesh fully with mine. It is the core beliefs that I stand for. They are the foundation of my faith. They are the reason I would die for my God.
Do not rely on the word of your Pastor, a Christian friend, or a TV evanlgelist. Search the Scriptures with a heart filled request for the Truth that only comes from God.
I always tell women (and men) to know what you believe, but more importantly why you believe what you believe. There will come a day when we do not have Bibles to know what God says. So, we must have it in our hearts. If you are unsure what the Bible says today, you may be deceived in times to come.
Just because your Pastor says one thing, does not make it so. It is often easier to simply go to church once a week and get our fill of the Word and then go home with the belief that we are okay and that tomorrow we will be okay.
Question everything. Search it out. See that it is true. How do you know if your church is based on the Scriptures and nothing but? Ask for the church’s manual or a copy of their core beliefs. Check to see that every doctrine is found in the Bible. Why do they teach what they teach? Don’t be afraid to see what other denominations are teaching and why - you might be surprised!
It can be an uncomfortable thing for one to find out that what they thought they believed their entire lives is not really what they believe - or what the Bible teaches.
The Bible tells us, “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1John 2:4) and “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.” (Isa 8:20)
I hear a lot of women complain that it is so hard these days to find a Bible based church. Don’t be content with the next best thing. There ARE churches out there that keep to His Word.
