Well, It's been a long time since I've posted a list of to do's (or ta da's, for that matter!), so here it goes! Clean kitchen Tidy living room go to the bank clean bathroom We finally have a nice, sunny day here in the good old Pacific Northwest,…

My hubby is going to build me raised beds this year, and we're planning to do that in February. In the mean time, I'm going to dream about gardening! We are having an unusually mild winter, so I may try to get some lettuce & spinach started. Please…

That sounds like a good plan! My husband agreed to build me raised beds also, for the growing season. I put a ton of work into doubling the garden, at the end of summer this year, and some neighborhood creature dug all through the bed and moved the…

Yes - I read Lasagna Gardening and Square Foot Gardening a couple of years ago and believe it to be one of the best gardening methods I have ever tried.
October 25, 2009
I think it's called Lasagna gardening, because you are layering your organic material like you layer your lasagna. For the garden you would first put a layer of peatmoss, or hay, then a layer of composted manure, then a layer of leaves, etc. This is…

this sounds interesting.....but obvious question --- why do they call it lasagna gardening? Initially, I clicked on this discussion bc I thought it was about planting all your veggies (tomatoes, spinach, zucchini etc) for all upcoming lasagna nights…

If you bake your own bread much, you could use the whey instead of water or milk in your dough. I have not tried this myself, but I have heard it's nice in bread.

It sounds like we have the same weather! ( We have actually had a very nice, sunny summer, which is a little unusual in Seattle.) Normally, every season in our rainy season!

I hope your feeling better! I think it's understandable if you take a bit longer to get things done, considering you have been sick! Don't wear yourself out!

We are planning on using these two methods combined - raised begs and lasagna gardening. (i hope that makes sense) I've heard of some people with raised beds having trouble with them coming apart after a few seasons. Anyone have any advice for this?

I have let my housework go lately, too. I have been sick with the dreaded "flu". I have got to get it under control today. Say a prayer for me that I can get it all done.

Your chores to do all sound so cosy. I love the rainy, housebound days (and there are alot of those in the North East of England, lol), where you can get all your chores done, and enjoy doing them. xx

Profile Information

Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a wife and mother of one sweet little girl. I work part time at my church, and am able to be home the rest of the time with my little one.
What is your favorite Bible Verse?
2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
What is your favorite book?
The Bible, and pretty much any history book!
What is your favorite homemaking task? Why?
I really enjoy baking bread. It's fun to make, and I love providing something healthy & homemade for my family. (It saves money also!)
Share your testimony with us.
Here is the brief version! (sort of.) I was not raised in a Christian household, and in fact my mom was really into the "new age" movement. I pretty much was skeptical about everything, although I wasn't quite an atheist.

I had a lot of anger about how I was raised, that really came to the serface during my pregnancy. Then something pretty sad hapened with my mom, and instead of feeling compassion for her, I became even more angry.

My Aunt who was a Christian, had been talking to me about her beliefs in a very gentle and non-pushy way, and had become a person I could call when I really needed to talk to someone.

I called her one day, out of frustration, because I was really feeling like a failure as a wife and new mother. She read to me from Proverbs 31, about the woman of noble charecter, and it really touched me. After I got off the phone with her, I read it myself, and continued to read from the Bible. The next day when my daughter was napping, I decided to read more from the Bible. I had this feeling that I should pray for guidence before reading, and ended up crying out to God to take my anger and bitterness from me. I was totally sincere in that moment, and I asked God to change me, because I couldn't go on being the kind of person I was. I ended up on the floor crying harder then I ever had in my life! When I was done, I realized my anger was completely gone! That was it for me. I knew in that moment that God was very real, and even though I didn't understand how it was possible, he actually heard me and loved me enough to take my burden of anger from me.

Melaine, I am praying for Jay! This is a good place for Godly women to stand together to see their husbands and children saved. Let me know when you get your miracle. Line your words up with your prayers.

Love,
Candy

Hi Melaine, I love your testimony, I remember those times of crying, cleaning out my soul, your testimony brought that feeling back to me. What a wonderful blessing.

I also read your discussion about housekeeping, I still am a work in progress myself. I have found out a couple of things.

Make your bed everymorning, and if your sweet daughter is 2ish, teach her to make her bed (is doesn't have to be perfect), that's 80% of bedroom mess.

Clean your kitchen every night. Dishes (dried and put away), counter tops, oven top, counter appliances, sweep and mop the floor. That way you start with a sparkling kitchen every morning!

Grab an empty laundry basket, and you and your daughter can go through and pick up the livingroom (I know my 2 yo can bring out every toy he owns in about 10 mins., then take an hour to pick up and put away). This one can be loads of fun if you make it a game (like beat the clock, or dancing to some bouncy music).

Deep cleaning comes along, but get into these habits first. I was in my 30's before I figured any of this stuff out. With the birth of my first son, I had to learn to keep a house clean and free from dangers, so I know of what you speak.

Anywhoo, I hope this helps. Happy cleaning! Rusty
