Profile Information

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am married to my Beloved, Joe, and mother to our 2 little ones. We are a homesteading family. Currently, we home church due to fuel costs and our church being 85 miles from home.

I am quite old-fashioned in many ways. I love cooking on our old wood burning cook stove. We currently live in a home built in 1890 and in the spring will be building a smaller home on the property to move into.

We are striving for a plain, simple life. When our children are old enough, we will be homeschooling them. My Beloved works in a town 10 miles away. We have started a home business for me to be able to help earn an extra income for our family.
What is your favorite Bible Verse?
"Let your heart not be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." John 14:1

This simple verse is such a comfort to the heart. We often allow ourselves to be affected by the world and the many stresses & worries found in life. This verse reminds me daily to remember that if we believe in God and in our Savior, Christ Jesus, we have no need for our hearts to be troubled.
What is your favorite book?
Bible, The Power of a Praying Wife
What is your favorite homemaking task? Why?
Sewing. I love the challenge of making all my family's clothing.

Greetings!

Amazing! I actually got back here within a reasonable amount of time.

We are doing very well. I have been busy getting the sorting and cleaning done. It is a big task each autumn season. We have to rearrange the furniture in the front room to make room for a supply of firewood to be stored in the house when the cold weather is upon us.

I am moving my sewing area to the back of the house again. We are determined to have heat back there this year. The only rooms currently with heat in the winter… Continue

Greetings from the Homestead!

I pray that all are doing well. It has been too long since I last posted an entry.

We are doing well. Being fully without electricity has taken a bit of routine changing & getting used to new (old) ways of doing things. We are managing well though.

A month ago I was hospitalized for chest pains and am now on 2 heart meds to control my blood pressure. The doctor is certain that there needs to be no change to our diet or lifestyle. I am merely the recipient of 2 family lines with a history o… Continue

One last Entry

Well, we have made all the preparations for tomorrow. I am excited about it. We are going to have them remove the electric cable from the house. There is a tree near it that we need to cut down and where the cable is located, the tree could cause damage. So, to avoid the damage, we are having the entire electric line removed.

In ways this is a bit surreal. I am sure that it will take a bit of time to get used to the new routine that we will be having. All meals will be prepared on the wood cook… Continue

Going Off-Grid Tomorrow

Dearest Sisters,

The Lord is leading us in a new adventure. We will be going off grid much earlier than planned. Today is my last day with electricity. I am hurrying to grind as much wheat flour as my poor grinder can handle doing. I am also collecting addresses of friends who are wanting to stay in touch via regular mail.

We know that the Lord is in control of this. One of Beloved's co-workers is giving us a propane refrigerator next Friday. The Lord is so awesome and looking out for us.

It… Continue

Becoming more "Plain" in a Modern World

Being Plain doesn't always have to mean wearing the Amish style dress & living a non-electric life. I am convinced that being Plain is an attitude also. The external things that you see are a result of the change of attitude. The more Plain you become, the more of the "world" you shed away. There are steps that we are following to become more Plain. I will share them below.

1. We took a hard look at our home. Look at it from the perspective of a stranger. If someone were to walk through the… Continue

shalom Mrs. Joseph Jones, i pray your summer/fall is going well. We're trying to get ready for winter here. I'm trying to figure out what we'll need for the winter to get in the fall---it's a very vague list at the moment (check this...maybe that). Even though we live in the city i'd rather store up during the summer/fall and not need to go out except for dairy items and excercise. Please message me, maybe we could write during the winter : )
